Rejected petition Ensure journalists abide by a code of conduct to prevent discrimination
Currently newspapers are able to print any articles even if this would have a detrimental on a minority group.
Currently within newspapers a number of articles are being circulated with personal and inappropriate comments around minority groups, such as the trans community.
More details
Examples of inappropriate reporting.
A journalist describes the right of a trans woman to be nursed on a female ward as ‘the madness having to stop’. This is in breach of the equality act.
This style of reporting is routinely happening which is having a negative impact on the trans community.
Journalists need to be governed and held accountable for the articles they write and circulate within the public.
This petition was rejected
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
We can't accept your petition because we aren't sure what action you would like the UK Government or Parliament to take.
UK newspapers are already required to abide by the Editor's Code set out by the Independent Press Standards Organisation. This includes a section on discrimination:
https://www.ipso.co.uk/editors-code-of-practice/#Discrimination
Enforcement is the responsibility of IPSO and not the UK Government or Parliament. We are therefore unsure what action you would like the UK Government or Parliament to take.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
