Petition Exempt British citizens living abroad from additional stamp duty on a UK home
UK citizens living abroad who wish to purchase a property for their eventual return to the UK, or for their children who may be moving to the UK, are currently caught within the net of "foreigners to be charged additional stamp duty when buying a UK property". Such individuals should be exempt.
More details
Example 1: UK citizen living and working abroad now wishes to plan their return to the UK and buy a home which they will move to upon coming back to the UK to work or retire. This home should be exempt from additional stamp duty.
Example 2: UK citizen's children are moving back to the UK after growing up overseas with their parents who are living and working abroad. The parents wish to purchase a home in the UK as a base for their children. This should not be subject to additional stamp duty.
