Petition Lower employment restrictions of the hour's school-aged children can work
The hours minors can work should be limited to three hours or less on any school day (unless there is no school the next day) to meet the needs of today's businesses.
During school holidays, the 7am-7pm limit should be increased to 8 pm as minors are not in education the following days.
More details
With the major decline in school-aged children having part-time jobs this is an escalating problem and not doing anything has wider social and economic costs. It estimated young people not being in jobs will cost £28 billion over the next decades.
Internationally (such in the USA and Australia), under 16s are allowed to work in a major corporation such as McDonald's) but limited businesses allow under 16s to work for them and lie under principles of unjustified reasons and reasons which do not comply with UK laws.
We need to support under 16s into part-time jobs and this must be a foremost priority if the UK is to avoid a lost generation. Not doing anything means an inadequate talent pool for the needs of UK businesses as our economy grows and recovers.
