Rejected petition Click-through T's & C's aren't effective replace them with a new legal framework
Nobody reads T's & C's. The rise of internet/mobile services has massively increased how often we encounter T's & C's. There's now a need for regulation and a better alternative. Simplicity, clarity, normalisation are required to allow the reader to understand easily, to what it is they're agreeing.
More details
The majority of T's & C's contain terms which while phrased differently have a shared spirit. This statement may seem to contradict the above but being phrased differently can lead to different legal interpretations thus different outcomes.
Given the sizes of these documents, the 'reader' may inadvertently agree to terms not directly related to their immediate and expected business with the provider.
As T's & C's are binding the question is: In their current form do they support the common good?
This petition was rejected
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Petitions need to call on the UK Government or Parliament to take a specific action. We understand you're concerned about online terms and conditions but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the UK Government or Parliament to do.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you'd like the UK Government or Parliament to do. For example, you could start a new petition calling for legislation to give consumers who purchase goods online specific protections, if that's what you want to happen.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
