Rejected petition Government to regulate social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, etc

Social media platforms have become too big and influential to be allowed to operate under their own rules. We have seen recently swathes of people having their accounts banned for writing a rightwing political view or sharing a photo of themselves with certain people which were previously allowed

More details

Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that "Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers"

I would like to see the government bring in regulation so that this fundamental right is upheld and free speech from both sides is allowed to flourish. No one should be banned for their political views.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. In particular we're not sure whether you want to change the laws around free speech and hate speech or whether you're concerned about social media.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
