"Gay conversion therapy" can involve many detrimental procedures, ranging from such acts as making an LGBT person vomit while watching gay porn, in order to associate homosexuality with a feeling of disgust, to such acts as heterosexual sexual assault to "cure" one of their homosexuality.

"A 2009 survey of over 1,300 accredited mental health professionals found that more than 200 had offered some form of conversion therapy, with 35 per cent of patients referred to them for treatment by GPs and 40 per cent treated inside an NHS practice" (from Stonewall).
While our society has very much progressed since a decade ago, "gay conversion therapy" has still not been outlawed in the UK. This process can be highly detrimental to mental and physical health, particularly on young people.
