Rejected petition Remove Jeremy Clarkson from the BBC payroll, in light of his recent comments

More details

The BBC, a licence fee funded organisation should sack Jeramy Clarkson for his increasingly ill-judged an insulting comments. Suggesting the striking worker should be executed in front of their families is an unacceptable statement, especially on a family show. His recent comments relating to suicide victims are crass and insensitive. When taken in conjunction with past offensive comments it is clear that retailing Clarkson on their payroll is only going to damage the reputation of the BBC.

The government should call for the BBC to hold those on its payroll to a higher standard and thus should terminate Clarkson's employment.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

Jeremy Clarkson's employment is a matter for the BBC.

It is a long-standing principle that the Government does not interfere in programme matters, either on arrangements for scheduling or on content. It is important to maintain the principle of freedom of expression which political interference could undermine.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
