Rejected petition Change driver licence point system. Issue points only for major offences.
Motorists are fined for any offence and are also getting 3 points. The points should only be given for major offences such as (example) fault at big incidents with serious injuries or death, running a red light, running red X on motorways, exceeding speed limits by over 30mph, etc.
More details
It is too easy to obtain points, such as driving downhill and get caught speeding or by other 'accidental' instances. If caught, wether it's accidental or not, then punishment may be justified. However only a fine should be in place for minor offences. Penalty points only to be given for major offences.
We all want people to drive according to the law, but no one is perfect and these days receiving points can cause a huge disruption in life as a lot of people use vehicles for work purposes.

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We understand you don't want points issued for minor driving offences but we're not sure which offences you mean. We're also not sure whether you want to change the penalties for the most serious driving offences.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
