Rejected petition Strip the Sultan of Brunei of his honorary degree awarded by Aberdeen University
An honorary degree awarded by the University of Aberdeen to Hassanal Bolkiah in 1995 is under review as his country makes gay sex an offence punishable by stoning to death.
More details
In order to uphold Aberdeen's mantra of inclusivity and equality, it is urgent that we act fast and stand together with the LGBTQ+ community of Brunei. Bolkiah must be stripped of his honorary degree to make it clear that the student community will not associate themselves with a man behind such barbaric policies.
