Rejected petition Increase the length of time at college to reduce depression in teenagers

Something is seriously wrong with the education system surrounding college. Everywhere I look, everyone I speak to... they’re depressed. I don’t know who thought that cramming 3 A levels (each with about 10 times the content as the GCSE version) into 2 years was a good idea, it’s ridiculous.

More details

The expectations are we wake up at 6, go to college until 4:30, get home at 6 to then fit in an hours revision for each subject (until 9) as well as juggling dinner, chores, family time, extra activities and still be in bed for a reasonable time to sleep enough to function properly the next day. There is no break as “time off” is used for extra study. I don’t know a single person that isn’t struggling. In addition, we finish the content a few weeks before exams, leaving no time to revise.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

We understand that you are concerned about depression among teenagers but we aren't sure what you mean by "increase the length of time at college."

You could start a new petition calling for A-levels and equivalent qualifications to be changed from two to three year courses if that is something you would like to see happen.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
