Petition Residential Rehab to be provided as an option for convicted non violent addicts

Addiction is a growing epidemic resulting in broken families, homeless, domestic burglary or shop lifting and ultimately premature death
Currently the average cost per week to keep someone in prison stands at approx £1,211 per week.Residential Rehab costs approx less then half, around £600 p/week

More details

Prison may help that addicted person to not drink/use during their sentence, but it doesn't deal with cause. Resulting in re offending. If the option of Residential Rehabilitation was provided (following the 12steps)it would provide that person with a chance to deal with their addiction,to then be go back into the community to rebuild their lives. If they fail the residential term or refuse rehab the custodial sentence can still stand. However economically and morally the chance should be given.
