Rejected petition Debate Petition responses being politically and factually incorrect.
The ability to petition Parliament is important for our democracy. Equally important is that the responses are fact checked by Parliament and are not just a voice for government. Otherwise the system stops working and becomes pointless, regardless of the number of signatures obtained.
More details
There have been several petitions related to brexit, specifically about accountability and procedure, where the response has been factually incorrect. E.g. the use of the words "this government" relating to a previous parliamentary session.
This petition was rejected
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
The Petitions Committee already considers all government responses to ensure that they meet the standards agreed with the Leader of the House. When responses don’t meet the rules, the Committee can already decide to request a revised response from the government. We're therefore not sure exactly what further action you'd like to see.
The responses to petitions are provided by government departments. You are very welcome to contact them, to let them know your views. You can find their contact details here:

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
