In the 1980s, there was a massive AIDS crisis, affecting not only gay men, but also heterosexual and lesbian couples. However, many people don't know the astounding amount of deaths it caused, and how it affected communities and countries.

Over 22 million people have died from AIDS so far. The AIDS epidemic also created a sense of fear surrounding the LGBT+ community, which increased homophobia.
