Petition Remove restrictions on the right to work for asylum seekers

Asylum seekers in the UK could make a contribution of £42m to the economy if restrictive rules for work were lifted. This means people are essentially banned from working while they wait for a decisions. Asylum seekers are forced to live on £5.39 a day which is sometime really hard to apply.

More details

Lift the Ban estimates that if half of 11,000 asylum seekers aged 18 or over who are waiting on a decision were entitled to work full-time on the national average wage, the government would receive £31.6m a year from tax and NI contributions. It would also save £10.8m on the cash support it provides. Asylum seekers are most vulnerable and many Asylum seekers are suffering from PTSDs, depression, anxiety and several psychological problems that adds burdens on GPs and hospitals.
