Rejected petition UK should not extradite Julian Assange to the US While Donald Trump is President
Rejected on
The UK should not extradite Julian Assange to the US until Donald Trump has left office. Trump, who’s 2016 election, inauguration, administration, finances, tax affairs and business operations are under close scrutiny, is looking to use this case to crush the freedom of the press to investigate him.
The US Department of Justice indictment of Julian Assange under the Espionage Act amounts to an attack on freedom of the press by the Trump Administration. Assange’s case is to be used to justify the introduction of tough sanctions for independent journalists conducting legitimate investigations
Trump, who has previously described the media as “the enemy of the people”, is under investigation along with members of his family, business associates, campaign and administration officials
