Whilst a prison officer is carrying out their duties they have powers of a constable yet when they get assaulted the CPS often plea bargains the sentence down. Prison Officers should be afforded the same level of protection under law as a citizen in the street yet prison officers are being assaulted and cases are being dropped or given atleast a very weak sentence such as common assault
