Rejected petition maternity pay to be increased to full pay for 6 months and increase SMP

After a child women want to spend enough time with their child to bond. Most women would love to have a year off however can not afford it. Maternity pay should be increased to full pay for 6 months and SMP should be increased.
Other countries support mothers far better including Australia who receive over $719.35 a week. Almost double what a female in the UK receives a week.
Why was this petition rejected?
