Petition Ban sale of filtered cigarette butts in UK by 2020

Cigarette butts are non-biodegradable and release toxic chemicals into the sea.

They are the most numerous kind of pollutant there are in our oceans and on our planet.

Please save our marine ecosystems by urging our governments to ban the sale of all cigarette butts by 2020 in th UK.

More details

According to data collected by Ocean Conservancy, approximately 60 million cigarette filters have been collected since the 1980s.

This massively exceeds the number of plastic bags, food wrappers, drinks bottles or straws cleaned up from our oceans.

Some dispose of their filters directly on the beach causing environmental harm which has damaging knock-on effects.
