VAT on Building Work, such as extensions and renovations, should be reduced to 5% when undertaken by VAT registered builders and where there is proof of compliance to Building Regulations on completion. This would help eliminate the 'black economy', reduce unemployment, increase building standards and could well lead to an increase in the tax collected as less people would seek to pay for work in cash.
