Petition Cancel HS2 saving £85bn; Order 20 Type 45 destroyers from northern shipyards.
Yesterday we learned that HS2 will cost up to £85bn and rebalance the economy. It will not rebalance the economy. Building 20 Type 45 Destroyers in northern shipyards will rebalance the economy and rebuild our Naval capability and cost only £20bn.

The RN has six Type 45 destroyers - fewer than originally intended. the average cost was £1.05 bn. A confirmed order for 20 across several northern shipyards ought to achieve competitive bids and will do more to rebalance the economy than HS2 that arguably does as much or more for London as it does for the north.
