Petition Allow premature babies to use due date rather than birth date for school entry.
Using due date rather than birth date would put the child into the year group they should had been in, had they been born when expected.
More details
The present system of holding back summer born children is not effective, as children must skip a year for secondary school.
I started this petition because of my own situation. My son was born at 33 weeks. He should have been born in October but ended up arriving unexpectedly towards the end of August.
Prem babies are known to disadvantaged starting school and especially if they are unexpectedly born in July or August. This would help to reduce the difficulties faced by prem children and mean they would be starting school when they were supposed to.
