Rejected petition Overturn the recent High Court ruling and BAN the sale and use of Metaldehyde.

Rejected on

On 18/12/18, The Environment secretary, announced A ban on the outdoor use of metaldehyde, a pesticide used to control slugs, with a sale ban to start from 30/06/19 & use from Spring 2020.
This decision was overturned by the high court on 31/07/19 after a legal challenge by Chiltern Farm Chemicals.

The UK Expert Committee on Pesticides (ECP) & Health & Safety Executive (HSE) agree Metaldehyde is an unacceptable risk to birds & mammals. Alternative pesticides containing ferric phosphate, provide effective control of invertebrates without carrying the same risks to wildlife.
As a Hedgehog rescue, we regularly have to deal with Hogs poisoned from Metaldehyde. Hedgehogs are on the edge of extinction. Allowing the use of this chemical will further decimate theirs & other wildlife numbers!
