Rejected petition Grant British citizenship to the people of Hong Kong.

The chair of the Commons foreign affairs committee has recently argued that the U.K should grant British citizenship to the people of Hong Kong, in the face of recent tensions with Beijing.
Our country should offer this to the people of Hong Kong, recognising our historic ties and past roles.

More details

“The UK had obligations to Hong Kong citizens before 1997, and the extension of overseas citizenship, which is in many ways a second-tier citizenship, was a mistake..At a time when there are clearly tensions in Hong Kong, the UK could reassure many Hong Kong citizens that their existing rights are recognised by the UK, and they are valued.” - Tom Tugendhat, The Guardian (https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/aug/13/uk-british-nationality-hong-kong-citizens-tom-tugendhat)
