Rejected petition Use “LGBT+ Discrimination” instead of “Homophobia” in legislation and parliament

The suffix “-phobia” implies that “homophobia”, “transphobia” and “biphobia” is a fear - something people cannot control.
People that are discriminatory towards members of the LGBT+ community are not “afraid”.
The term is outdated and takes the ownership off the perpetrator. This should change.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. Equalities legislation refers to sexual orientation and gender assignment, and not homophobia.

The language used by MPs in the House of Commons is a matter for individual Members of Parliament.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
