Rejected petition Political parties should be held accountable under the trades description act

The Trade Descriptions Act prevents manufacturers, retailers or service industry providers from misleading consumers as to what they are spending their money on. Why can't political campaign promises also fall under this act? False promises which aren't kept just to get into power should be illegal.

More details

If you bought something from a retailer that wasn't as described, you'd be well within your rights to send it back. Aren't you tired of voting for parties and politicians who promise the world, only to u-turn the second they get into power? This should be illegal and a criminal offence.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the UK Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you want the Government or Parliament to do.
The Trade Descriptions Act 1968 is intended to protect consumers of goods and services; it does not cover political campaigning. We're not sure whether, or how, you want to amend the Act or whether you want a new law to make misleading the public in election campaigns an offence.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
