Rejected petition Standardise rules regarding the organisation and legal result of referendums
There is a considerable inconsistency in recent referendums held in the UK. The Scottish referendum allowed 16 year olds to vote, while the Brexit referendum did not. The results are also not legally binding resulting in public outcry from both sides.

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We're not sure exactly what rules you'd like standardising.
You could start a new petition requring all UK referendums to be legally binding and be open to people from the age of 16 if that is what you'd like to see happen.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
