Important:

This petition was submitted during the 2017-2019 parliament

Rejected petition Allow judicial review of decisions made by the Speaker of the House of Commons.

Currently decisions made by the Speaker are not justiciable, that is, the courts cannot be asked to review them.

More details

Recent decisions of the Speaker concerning Standing Orders 24 and 48 and the issue of Queen’s Consent have meant the Speaker has changed the constitution and precipitated the current crisis. It is unacceptable in a modern democracy for one person to wield such power with no means for the people to challenge. Speaker’s important decisions such as this should be subject to the safeguard of judicial review to ensure they are lawfully, constitutionally and impartially made.q
