Rejected petition Recognise Optical Assistant/Dispensing Assistant as professional job

For too long now opticians/eye hospitals have been taking advantage of this skill that we have trained years to understand.but the pay is not what it should be for issuing what is technically a prescription for an eye. There needs to be a standard wage higher than the minimum wage for this job.

More details

Dispensing/Optical assistant needs to be recognised as a professional skill this is not an off the street job but employers Have been taking full advantage of people like myself that worked hard in this industry The pay should not be minimum wage for a job that requires you to be precise With an eye prescription and issue the correct lens .£18,500 Should be the standard with in any company or Health provider

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

Recognition of Optical Assistant/Dispensing Assistants as "professional jobs" is not a responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament as a whole.

You could raise the issue with the General Optical Council (GOC), the statutory body responsible for the professional regulation of optometrists and dispensing opticians in the UK. You can find out how to contact the GOC here:
