Under the EU Settlement Scheme, EU citizens' family can settle after 5 years' continuous residence (no other requirement), and the application is free. In contrast, UK citizens' family can only settle after 5 years' continuous residence with a family visa, providing they meet certain financial thresholds (at least £18,600 a year), and the application costs £2,389.
UK citizens' family should be treated equally, and allowed to settle after 5 years' continuous residence with no other requirement.
