Closed petition Standardize Bereavement Leave to Two weeks
Closed on
Currently men are given a weeks Paternity Leave but most people are only given three days leave for the loss of a loved one.
These two time scales are not a fair reflection of each other and I believe that all people should be given two weeks paid Bereavement Leave if they lose an immediate family member; a mother or father or brother or sister.
How can we be given a weeks leave for a joyous occasion but only three days when we are experiencing the tragedy of losing a close loved one?
Surely by expecting people to return to work so quickly we are encouraging them not to grieve properly and therefore potentially causing more long-term health issues and in turn more long-term sickness if this grief then comes out at a later date,
