Closed petition Stop charging patients in hospital to watch freeview television
Closed on
On Wednesday 4th September 2019 I attended Leeds St James Hospital for an operation and expected to be in no more than 2 days. This was not local to me as I am from Coventry.
I followed the letter sent by the hospital and did not take any valuables including a wallet, credit card or mobile phone.
Due to a number of complications I remained in for 11 days. I did not know anyone locally and therefore did not get any visits. I was shocked to see that charges are made to watch freeview television of £7.90 for a 24hr period for which half I would be asleep. I already pay a BBC licence fee and feel it is wrong to expect patients to pay for a service that would benefit not only their wellbeing but also help the Medical Teams caring for them. I spoke to many patients who all felt the same.
