Closed petition More financial support for workers in the event of sickness and time off work
Closed on
People in the UK who are unemployed can recieve support with housing costs, council tax, energy bills and also recieve regular payments.
Honest working citizens get no help even in the event of sudden illness. All that is available is SSP.
There is more incentive to being unemployed.
I work full time as a nurse and In 2017 I had an ectopic pregnancy and as a result I had 4-5 weeks off work for treatment. I was given SSP which at the time was £83 per week only after the first week. This amounted to 3 payments of SSP = £249 as opposed to the usual £1,500 full time wage. This did not pay my monthly rent costs or council tax as I still had a family to feed. I am still paying rent and council tax arrears of today as a punishment for being ill in hospital while employed full time.
