Petition Public Transport should be subsidised for college students and apprentices under the age of 18.
More details
Currently, under 16 year olds have access to heavily subsidised public transport services, such as buses, in order to allow them to access their compulsory educational requirements.
With the government making young people stay in compulsory education until the age of 18, is it not right that this subsidised travel should be available to 16 to 18 year olds also ?
As a student attending a 6th form college in Central Manchester I am charged full fare, and spend around £50 a month on travel !
Which works out at around £500 a year !
(not to mention the extra costs such as clothing and supplies)
This is an expense forced onto parents and carers across the UK, and is frankly unfair.
This is not making education accessible to all young people, I would like the government to consider implementing a cheaper travel rate for students and apprentices aged under 18, to come in line with current extended educational requirements.
