Politicians get voted in by people who believe that their party will do right by them. This has had the effect that successive governments from all parties have borrowed heavily from the public purse to support their chosen political causes - NHS, education, roads etc. This is form of bribery uses public money & bypasses the broader fiscal responsibility that is required of our leaders.
There should be an apolitical committee of experts set up that acts on the country's, rather than the government's behalf to oversee this long-term view.
