Closed petition #Presschange4youth

Closed on

We want the representation of children and youth in the media to be on your agenda. Over 60 youth organisations have endorsed a recent submission to the Leveson Inquiry, regarding changes to the Editors Code and the Press Complaints Commission. We believe that although press freedom is essential, we need balance in line with UN Committee on the Rights of the Child’s 2008 Concluding Observation No 17, “UK government must take urgent measures to address the intolerance and inappropriate characterisation of children, especially adolescents, within society, including the media”.
As a society we have a responsibility to inspire children & young people and they in turn deserve to be fairly represented for the positive contribution they make.
