Rejected petition Ban advertisements for Alcohol
More details
We want the government to ban all adverts for alcoholic products, I went to the cinema recently to view a 12a film and in the 15-30minutes of adverts there were 6 ads for alcohol 5 of which were strong spirits, this needs to stop. If people want to buy alcohol they know it's there, there is no need for adverts.
This petition was rejected
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
Advertising in the UK is controlled through a system of co-regulation and self-regulation, which is administered by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). This regulatory system is independent of Government and is ultimately responsible for setting the standards in advertising.
The ASA regulates advertising in all media and they ensure that advertisements, wherever they appear, comply, in full, with the requirements of the UK advertising codes – in particular that they are legal, decent, honest and truthful.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
