Important:

Rejected petition Religion should be kept separate from politics & official governmental functions, except when appropriate (like royal marriage, remembrance Sunday)

More details

Governmental events when religious ceremonies & prayers may be appropriate may include coronation, state funerals, etc. Prayers to unproven higher authority (like God, idols) are nonsensical to non-believers of other faiths (including atheists, agnostics) & cause divisions between various faiths. Invoking the name of God & explanations involving the spiritual world on complex issues can hinder the seeking of explanations & solutions from a scientific & logical standpoint. In the Middle Ages, the earth was believed to be flat & centre of the Universe. King Henry VIII broke away from Catholicism to avoid Pope’s wide ranging interference, influence, jurisdiction, pronouncement over wide-ranging affairs like politics, sciences, arts, laws, marital affairs, customs, etc. Britain is a secular society & religion should be practised as a matter of private individual faiths & preferences, not to be regarded as the ultimate prescription in laws, life, the universe & everything for society.
