Rejected petition Lobby supermarkets to establish a 1h trading time for vulnerable people

Lobby supermarkets to limit the first hour of trading to elderly and other vulnerable people at least 2-3 times a week during the coronavirus crisis.

More details

Allowing the elderly and other vulnerable people to do their shopping before the general public, and after supermarkets have been cleaned and stocked, will allow them to get what they need while minimising the risk of getting COVID-19.

Some local supermarkets have taken the initiative to do it and spreading this idea would benefit the people that are in most need during this time.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

The opening arrangements for supermarkets are a matter for individual retailers, not the Government or Parliament. A number of retailers have announced plans to open early for elderly or vulnerable customers. You should contact your local supermarket to find out if they have put such arrangements in place.

The Government has made certain changes to enable supermarkets to work together during the coronavirus outbreak, particularly to serve customers who are elderly, ill or vulnerable: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/supermarkets-to-join-forces-to-feed-the-nation
