This petition was submitted during the 2019-2024 parliament
Rejected petition Impose a ‘senior citizen’ hour for the first hour of all shops opening.
Impose a rule that all shops must only allow senior citizens and very vulnerable people to shop in the first hour of opening. To provide them with the cleanest environment and most stocked shelves in the current fight against stock piling and spreading Coronavirus.
More details
We want to protect our vulnerable in society and allow them the opportunity to go to the shops knowing that they won’t be stood out in the cold, or arrive to empty shelves. We want to give them priority to do their shopping before those of us who can use the internet or shop at different times.

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
The opening arrangements for supermarkets are a matter for individual retailers, not the Government or Parliament. A number of retailers have announced plans to open early for elderly or vulnerable customers. You should contact your local supermarket to find out if they have put such arrangements in place.
The Government has made certain changes to enable supermarkets to work together during the coronavirus outbreak, particularly to serve customers who are elderly, ill or vulnerable: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/supermarkets-to-join-forces-to-feed-the-nation
