Rejected petition Implement supermarket opening times for the elderly and other high risk groups
We propose that the Government implements a set period of the day (8am to 10pm) for the elderly and other high risk groups to do their shopping in the event on a Covid-19 lockdown.
More details
As we have seen in the news and social media, there is widespread pandemonium with regards to stockpiling of essential products. We feel this will leave the elderly etc in a precarious position, and call upon the Government to introduce safe shopping times away from the hoards of panic buyers. Not only will this give them the opportunity to stock up on food and medicine, but will also assist with their physical and mental wellbeing during a very difficult time.

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
The opening arrangements for supermarkets are a matter for individual retailers, not the Government or Parliament. A number of retailers have announced plans to open early for elderly or vulnerable customers. You should contact your local supermarket to find out if they have put such arrangements in place.
The Government has made certain changes to enable supermarkets to work together during the coronavirus outbreak, particularly to serve customers who are elderly, ill or vulnerable: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/supermarkets-to-join-forces-to-feed-the-nation
