This petition was submitted during the 2019-2024 parliament
Rejected petition The government must provide a clear policy on public examinations this summer.
We are demanding clarity on what will happen to our GCSE and A-Level exams. We do not care what policy the government decides to go with, only that the decision is made soon.
More details
Exam boards provide the papers and the grades, but overall responsibility for GCSE and A-Level exams falls on the government, specifically the department of Education. Students do not know wether to prepare as normal, wait so they don't peak in June only to have exams postponed, or if their school closing will affect results. Only the government is in a position to set the agenda. We need a clear path forward as an already tumultuous process is becoming impossible to navigate.

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
Decisions about exams are a matter for exam boards and individual schools, not the UK Government or Parliament. You can read the decision made by exam boards on what will happen to exams here:

If you want the Government to review the decision to use previous data to calculate exam grades, you may wish to sign this petition:

As a result of the large numbers of petitions people have tried to start on this issue, and following a large number of questions it received from petitioners about exams, the Petitions Committee asked the Government about the impact of coronavirus on schools and exams.
