Rejected petition Reschedule rather than cancel GCSE Exams

Not to do the exams in May and June was a sensible decision, to cancel them altogether is the wrong approach.

The Government should reconsider and POSTPONE the exams in order to keep the learning and revision activities at the forefront of students minds to prepare themselves for the future

More details

Students have covered the programmes and were in a revision phase. They now have additional time to revise until September, they could then start college in October exceptionally.

The current approach disadvantages those students who have worked extremely hard to improve their potential grades and do not now have the opportunity to achieve what they may have done.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

Decisions about exams are a matter for exam boards and individual schools, not the UK Government or Parliament. You can read the decision made by exam boards on what will happen to exams here:

If you want the Government to review the decision to use previous data to calculate exam grades, you may wish to sign this petition:

As a result of the large numbers of petitions people have tried to start on this issue, and following a large number of questions it received from petitioners about exams, the Petitions Committee asked the Government about the impact of coronavirus on schools and exams.
