Rejected petition Reverse the country wide redundancies.

Rejected on

Have company's in the UK consider and reverse the redundancies they have made since the coronavirus outbreak. With the government announcing that 80% of employees wages will paid by the new government legislation.

To correct an awful mistake these companies have made in light of the new 80% government backed help to pay workers who have suddenly been made unemployed or put on gardening leave.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

Decisions about reemploying staff who were made redundant ahead of the Government launching the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme are a matter for individual employers, not the Government or Parliament.

If a company made employees redundant, they can re-employ them and put them on furlough and claim for their wages from the date on which they furloughed them through the scheme: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/claim-for-wage-costs-through-the-coronavirus-job-retention-scheme
