Rejected petition Guarantee the self-employed 80% of their income during the COVID-19 pandemic

Employees have been guaranteed 80% of their salary during the current crisis, up to £2500 per month. The best available to self-employed people is currently £94.25 a week, via Universal Credit. This is unfair for the 15% of the population who are self-employed.

Administering this may be more complex than the employees’ scheme already announced, but Norway has promised it as a percentage of previous average earnings. HMRC has all the necessary information from Self Assessment tax returns to do the same here.

Since this petition was started, the Government has said that most self-employed people can claim a taxable grant worth 80% of their trading profits up to a maximum of £2,500 per month for the next 3 months.
