Rejected petition Give self-employed people the same financial assistance as PAYE during pandemic

Currently the government will pay 80% of the wages of people on PAYE. They'll recieve up to to £25k per year in assistance, whereas the self-employed can claim universal credit to approximately £400 per month. The self employed need equal parity based on the previous years earning to the same value.

Simply calculate the previous years earnings based on these previous tax returns to calculate their average earnings and pay the self-employed 80% of their lost wages up to £25k. All money earned in addition to the assistance can then be claimed back by the government upon the next tax return. (If you are self-employed and have savings, which the majority do to pay yearly tax bills, you currently can't claim anything)

Since this petition was started, the Government has said that most self-employed people can claim a taxable grant worth 80% of their trading profits up to a maximum of £2,500 per month for the next 3 months.
