Rejected petition Self employed should receive 80% of take home pay during the COVID-19 outbreak
Self employed and freelancers are currently being asked to apply for Universal Credit during the outbreak if they are struggling financially. This isn't sufficient for most people to maintain their household
More details
The government should give clarity as a matter of urgency on receiving an income equivalent to the take home pay based on tax returns filed or at the very least 80% of. Universal Credit is not sufficient for many self-employed and freelancers especially who are not operating small businesses or premises. Some people have already lost all of their income and are struggling. 15% of the UK workforce are in this category and are being treated differently to the employed which is an insult.
