Rejected petition This country should become a democracy

Meritocracy and social mobility will remain fairy stories unless and until there is room at the top - for anyone.

Birth, inheritance. religion and appointment should no longer afford access to our legislature or determine our Head of State.

Until such time as we have an elected Head of State and an elected Upper House, no-one in public office should be permitted to refer to this country as a democracy.

We the undersigned request that our government call elections to Head of State and the Upper House.
