Rejected petition Stop all movement of people into the UK during the COVID19 crisis

Rejected on

The Government should immediately introduce an external lockdown until after an effective vaccination for the Coronavirus has been developed and administered.

The Government has in effect locked down the country but is still allowing people in. There is a great risk that anyone coming into the country will be carrying the virus, even if they show no symptoms. It will be impractical to enforce isolation for the numbers that usually travel here. This will be a problem during the internal lockdown. It will be even worse once the lockdown hopefully has the desired effect of containing the disease and the internal lockdown is relaxed. That effort with its massive economic cost will have been for nought if the virus is reintroduced into the country. As with any rule there will need to be exceptions but these should be minimal.
