Rejected petition Protect credit ratings for self employed affected by COVID-19 who can’t work.

I would like the government to step in and put a hold on credit ratings that are affected until this pandemic has passed and people can start returning to work and some sort of normal life.

More details

I can see the main ones affected by this will be the self employed as we have only been awarded statutory sick pay or universal credit.
I’m sure our credit ratings will be severely affected by not being able to keep up with our credit agreements.
Protecting people’s credit rating now will help the economy in the future when this is over.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

The preparation and scoring of credit reports is a matter for individual credit reference agencies in cooperation with lenders, not the Government or Parliament. The UK's three credit reference agencies have all issued statements and advice about what people should do if they are facing financial difficulties as a result of the outbreak. We have published a petition calling on the Government to encourage credit agencies to show consideration to negative transactions that have occurred during the coronavirus outbreak, which you may wish to sign: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/314622
