Rejected petition Stop students paying unnecessary rent

We call on the government to reimburse students who through no fault of their own are still paying rent for a property they no longer live in. University accommodation have agreed that students are no longer liable for paying rent. This should apply to students in private rented accommodation.

Students now cannot attend university due to Covid-19 and many have now had to move out of their accommodation before their tenancy ends.

Students are already one of the most indebted groups of people in our communities and having this additional burden of paying rent for a property they can no longer live in is grossly unfair.
